Do you really need to store that IoT data?

This is an extremely important article not only because of the tsunami of data that IoT represents, but because it highlights the need to communicate IoT project plans with legal counsel. It should be a given that mitigating risk is a critical component of any Information Governance program, but it is amazing how often new projects are undertaken without communicating these plans to other parts of an organization. This article is a good primer for the risks involved in collecting and storing IoT data, particularly personally identifiable information, that is flooding our servers. IoT data is a treasure trove of valuable information that can improve a company’s bottom line in a variety of ways, but it is just as important to understand the risks involved.
