Survey Shows Lack of Knowledge about GDPR Compliance Risks

The results of this survey shouldn’t surprise anyone in our profession, but the pertinent line of this story gets lost in all of the negative statistics and it is this: “The survey of 1,350 non-IT executives across 11 countries…”

What this tells me is that Upper Management has either not been told of this critical risk to the organization (which I doubt) or that they believe other more immediate budgetary considerations take precedence over dealing with GDPR compliance.

This also shouldn’t surprise anyone, but the certainty of “penalties of up to €20 million or 4 percent of global annual turnover, whichever is higher” coming on May 25, 2018 will not be ignored. We as Information Governance Professionals need to have a plan to mitigate this important issue now when Upper Management comes calling.
