This is a great proof of life after being declared dead for tape showing how the technology continues to evolve increasing in performance, availabity, capacity and economics (PACE). Granted magnetic tape is not the primary data protection medium it once was, however for many organizations it still remains part of a tiered data storage and data management hierarchy enabling cost effective and productive data infrastructures from legacy to cloud. Besides boosting the PACE attributes of tape media, new access methods and abstraction layers are making where and how tape less cumbersome, who know, the data you archive to the cloud may have a copy also stored on tape.
