The Story of the R2 Standard’s Evolution

The Responsible Recycling (R2) standard covers environmental, worker health, and safety aspects of electronics refurbishing and recycling facilities. The standard is overseen by nonprofit group Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI).  R2 is one of two electronics recycling-focused standards originating in North America. The other, e-Stewards, was founded by the nonprofit group Basel Action Network.  Nearly 720 facilities worldwide are now certified to the R2 standard.
